Re: Please help - syncing pocketpedia to dvdpedia on iPhone

I had more success in synching by directly connecting iPhone to iMac, via the USB cable that Apple provides. Trying to do it via Airport works, but very slowly. Have DVDpedia and iTunes both running. A prompt will come up in DVDpedia, asking if it's OK to synch. Click yes, and off it goes. Don't use...

Re: BookPedia and Zotero

Like Markus, I use both Zotero and Papers and find them much less easy to operate than Bookpedia. I know there have been many requests for other -Pedia applications, but I'd love to see one where I could record notes from articles: book chapters, journals, magazines, newspapers, web sites. I can do ...

Re: Interface for antiquarian Books

Some tips on searching abebooks.com: It helps if you specify a year of publication. To see all the hits in the results window, click on its --> = button in the lower right corner. Items lower down on the list are usually listed as higher value. You'll find a great variation in the data entered and w...

Re: bibliography

Thanks for the tip on the "Copy as bibliography" command. I just tried it, with mixed results: All titles are underlined . The preferred MLA style for titles is italics , also preferred by publishers. Author names appear as Last, First, but not in A-Z order, although I sorted the Bp file b...

Sure. Select all the entries that you want to edit. Shift-click selects batches of entries; Cmd-click selects them in irregular order. Then Cmd-E, for Edit. Up comes a template that has all the data fields in it. Go to Author field and enter the form that you prefer. (On his more recent books, he si...

Four times I have used the Migration Assistant to move key files to a new machine. I select the documents, applications, and Library to transfer, and in a while (45 minutes was the longest time), I'm at work again. The MA lives in the Utilities folder. I think it also works for transferring Windows ...

One thing I miss: the new version of Bookpedia doesn't "remember" the fields I want to edit after the first panel. In the previous version, it always went straight to "Location" but now it's stuck in the first field and I have to manually click there. A small matter, but not when...

That sometimes happens to me, too. Suggestion: see if your browser has Block Popups or Private Browsing checked. May help to turn one or the other off for a while.

Conor,

Many thanks for your reply. Only an hour ago I noticed that little arrow and clicked it. It's a little obscure and maybe needs a title (Drawer) or else a Tool Tip.

Price Inverse sort not working

On a search of abebooks, I select Price Inverse but the results are still ranked from low to high prices. I want just the reverse. Do I need to select something in Preferences? It would be nice if I could click on the "Next Result" button and see a drop-down menu of choices 1-30. That way,...

Are you sure you want to remove? Might be better to use a Custom field to indicate that the book was sold, moved, or replaced. If another copy comes into the inventory, you don't have to re-enter all the data. Obviously, you know your situation better than I do. Just a thought.

I've only used it for inventory of a private library, but at 5k books, it's still fast and stable. I don't use the loan-and-retrieve features, but I bet they suit your circulation needs. If most of your books have ISBNs, you will be able to input the data very quickly. You sure can't beat the price!...

Artworks: use Google Image to get the widest range of choices.

Reviews: yes, Wikipedia reviews are better but some times quite long. Maybe just the top paragraph, followed by a URL link?

I've added shooting a photograph. But then I've eliminated carrying books and typing in the codes. Just a practical suggestion: hand-write the ISBNs or titles in list form, and then back at your Mac, type them into BookPedia. That is far less costly in time and effort than taking photos and convert...
