[DVDPedia] Problems with Amazon.fr?

Post by cortig »

Hi,

I’ve been trying to add a few movies of mine in DVDPedia and I’m wondering whether there might be a problem with searches on Amazon France.

I tried searching for “Un éléphant ça trompe énormément“ for instance and DVDPedia didn’t find anything.
If I search Amazon.fr directly in my web browser though, I find 7 results:
http://www.amazon.fr/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?u ... énormément

…which makes me suspect there is something wrong with searches on this site.

Any suggestion?

This is probably the same issue as discussed here.

It could very well be… but it's weird, since for some searches, I get some results. THey're just completely irrelevant (when I know there are relevant results, e.g.: I tried searching for Alien and only got irrelevant results).

Now the weirdest thing is that today, it seems to be working when yesterday it was a disaster. That could indeed be a sign something was awfully wrong on the Amazon side.
Thanks a lot for your help!

With Amazon the results range widely when you don't limit the search. Be sure to set the limit to "Title", this will remove all the results that might mention "Alien" in other fields. To show the limits you need to select the actual Amazon search site from under the magnifying glass.

Thanks for the detailed information.
I do play with these settings already. It really looks to me like Amazon is having serious difficulties on and off. Yesterday for instance, searching for Alien, I immediately found the right results. Today, none of the results are correct and most are not even related (apparently, there might be the term Alien somewhere in the description).

I also performed a search for “Un éléphant ça trompe énormément” and got nothing. If I search for B0002WYELC, it lists the (very same) movie immediately. Really annoying, and I don’t remember ever seeing that with the US version of the site.

They must be updating the service as trying out your search (copy pasted: "Un éléphant ça tromp énormément") today gives me 7 matches of which the first result is correct. This is without setting any non default limits: none and relevance.
