Import Movie Folder

Post by Thomas D. »

Hello,
I would love to use DVDpedia, but I can't manage to import my films. My films are in folders with .nfo files and moviename.jpg files. I am using MacOS 14.5 and dragging the folders onto the DVDpedia icon in the dock. Am I doing something wrong?

Have a read of this Help Document: Importing Collections

Also this Forum Topic: Re: IMDB ID lost when importing XBMC .nfo file

Doing further googling I discovered that if you are using an XBMC program which is now called Kodi, there is an informative page here: https://kodi.wiki/view/NFO_files and here https://kodi.wiki/view/Import-export_library/Video

Also the macOS TextEdit program apparently reads .nfo files. If your files can be read by TextEdit then you may be able to Save As into xml format which DVDpedia should pickup.

I advise that from the program you are using to export in .nfo just try and export 5 entries and then muck around with them to begin with. Then if everything works as you want then I also advise just exporting in chunks depending on the size of your previous database.

Sorry I can not be of any further help but would love to hear back in this topic your progress - success or failure. That way we can all learn 🎓

Hello,
Thank you
I had already read the instructions. However, the way described there (Import a folder of movie files to build your database that way. Just drag the folder over the DVDpedia icon in the dock and the movie files along with any information DVDpedia can extract (title, length, director, etc.) will be imported into the program. Most movie file types are recognized: .avi, .m4v, .mov) does not work. When I go to “Import collection”, all files, including the .nfo, are recognized, but then .mov .nfo .jpg are not combined into one movie.

I have now tried it (moving the folder to the icon in the dock) once on an old Mac running OS 10.14. Here .mov and .nfo are imported (not .jpg) but also treated as two separate movies.
