Smart Collection fed by Blockbuster/Netflix

Post by kaybulsolo »

I was updating my DVDPedia library today and got an email from Blockbuster.com asking me to "feed [my] queue". I opened up Safari and started adding titles to my Blockbuster.com queue. Then it hit me--how cool would it be to have DVDPedia use a Smart Collection that dynamically feeds from my Blockbuster.com account? It seems feasible doesn't it? After all, I have seen a Dashbuster Widget for the Mac and iPhone that shows your Blockbuster Queue once given a username and password. Benefits to such a feature would include:

-Dynamic rental queue without having to logon to Blockbuster via web browser
-Compare between rentals and owned movies so you know which movies to ask for next Christmas
-Compare between rentals and owned movies so you don't accidentally rent a movie you have already purchased
-Sync ratings from DVDPedia and Blockbuster

Any takers?

Hmmm... not seeing any action on the post. Do I need to be a bit more detailed or is there something I missed already on another post?

We like the idea. We had Netflix in mind for a while now. It's just a bit more complicated than our usual plug-in as it not only searches but has to stay in sync as well. We hadn't replied as we don't have a delivery date on that feature yet.

Thanks for the reply! I imagine Smart Collections are easier to sync as they are stored locally versus a remote server. I suppose having the Pedia check upon launch works but will not update the collection while the application is running. I imagine most users don't update their Blockbuster/Netflix as often as their Pedia library--maybe a time-based sync option in preferences or, as stated before, sync the list on application launch and maybe sync again (for changes) upon removing a title from the Smart Collection?

Either way, thanks for the great application!
