Love the program, I'd get the full pedias if you had PC versions, but alas, I have to make do with Pocketpedia, which I think is fantastic.
Anyway, I would like to request one of two things. Either allow titles to be placed in more than one collection, or give a tag/category option of some sort.
For example, I tried creating separate collections for DVDs, VHS, non-store-bought movies, and movies I want to own (a wishlist). Then I discovered that I could not put the same title in the non-store-bought movie category and the "movie wishlist" category at the same time. I would like to be able to put titles in multiple Collections. Or, I would like to have a tag or category option that, when I tap the category button, a pulldown menu or something with a list of checkboxed categories that I have created would give me the option of tagging that title with several categories and I could select to show me only titles with a certain category tag for easier searching.
This comes up particularly often because I am a local organizer for a special-interest group, and I often keep track of movies and books with themes that relate to this group. Some of the titles I own and some I borrowed from the library, and some I haven't seen at all yet, but I would like to be able to pull up a list of those titles when I'm talking to members of the group. Either method will work fine - I don't mind creating a whole separate Collection, if I could just put titles in more than one Collection, or a tag/category option that would sort and filter those titles out of all the Collections would work too.
I'm not sure if I'm explaining this correctly, so please feel free to ask for clarification.
Pocketpedia Categories or Multiple Entries
Re: Pocketpedia Categories or Multiple Entries
I completely understand your request. We get Pocketpedia as simple as possible so that we could better learn about the capabilities of the iPhone and how much is possible. One of those limitations was having each collection handle it's own movie and since searched movies are matched to your collection you can't add a second copy. We are already expanding Pocketpedia and making it more flexible and useful. We want to add both of your feature suggestions; although they will probably not be included until one or two updates down the road. For the first update we are working on adding sorting and searching. Thank you for the feedback on Pocketpedia, especially with so much detail, knowing how you would use it helps us create a clear picture.
P.S. Sorry to hear that you can't enjoy the Desktop pedias. If you ever get a Mac, be sure to check them out.

Re: Pocketpedia Categories or Multiple Entries
Hi there,
I'm basically in the same situation as Joreth -- a PC user but very appreciative of Pocketpedia on the iPhone -- thanks very much! One other thought that might solve one of Conor's issues and mine is a "move" function. Once I get a DVD on my wish list, it would be nice to just "move" it to "My DVDs" vs. deleting from one and re-adding to the other.
One quick separate question...I noticed on another post that you were planning an update so that entries would alphabetize on the iPhone. Will Pocketpedia automatically notify me of an update or how do I find out when it's available? thanks!

Thank you for the feedback. The move option is on the top of the feature request list and we should be able to get it into the next version. The alphabetizing bug is already fixed and the next version has the ability to sort entries by the sub-title: author, director, artist, platform (including last name). Re-sorting by title will update all the entries you now have in order of date added.
The App Store program on your iPhone will notify you of any updates. You have to launch the program and the update will appear under the updates tab once it's been released. Because it's more cumbersome to update through the App Store (it's not under our control) we are trying to fit a a number of things into the update before releasing it. We will also announce the new version on the Pocketpedia page, our forum and our blog.

I'm glad that we'll be able to sort by author also. Can you explain a little more what you mean by "re-sorting by title will update all the entries you now have in order of date added". How does the date added fit into the situation?Conor wrote:and the next version has the ability to sort entries by the sub-title: author, director, artist, platform (including last name). As I do have the Mac applications, I'd like to be able to have one "collection" sorted by title and one "collection" sorted by author. That is, of course, in addition to any other collections that I had in the desktop applications that sync over.
Re: Pocketpedia Categories or Multiple Entries
In version 1.0 of Pocketpedia there is a bug that although entries are grouped under the correct section (movies starting with A are under the "A" section) their order within the section is based on when you added a movie not alphabetical order (If Antz was added first and then Aliens, the "A" section will be "Antz" followed by "Aliens"). This bug will be fixed in the next version and for those who have already added 500 movies into Pocketpedia they can re-sort by title to fix the ordering of the the previously added movies to be in the correct order (Aliens then Antz). Can you explain a little more what you mean by "re-sorting by title will update all the entries you now have in order of date added". How does the date added fit into the situation?
Both these things will be a possibility. With the next version the sorting of a synced collection will carry over to Pocketpedia, keeping the order you are used to on your desktop in Pocketpedia. As I do have the Mac applications, I'd like to be able to have one "collection" sorted by title and one "collection" sorted by author. That is, of course, in addition to any other collections that I had in the desktop applications that sync over.

Re: Pocketpedia Categories or Multiple Entries
Thanks. I guess that I hadn't looked close enough to see the "date added" bug.
I'm glad to hear about the new functions being added in the next version. I'm excited and can't wait to see them.
