until today my wishlist on my pocketpedia 2 was sorting by release date, I inadvertently hit the button on the top right to see other sort options but hit cancel, however, I am now unable to see my wishlist sorting by release.

How do I change this back to sort by release ?

Try setting the sort order with the desktop and it should be inherited by the mobile app after synching.
