Ever thought of adapating it for Comic Books Conor?

There are a few out there, but your software looks and works so much better, I wonder how much effort it would take to adapt it?

Thank you for the examples. Comics has been something we have been thinking about and might add to Bookpedia as a plug-in or make a separate program. we won't be tackling it until CDpedia is released though.

A plug-in would be fantastic. Or if someone else out there has created a plug-in (maybe using comics.org), please let me know (benfisher@mac.com).

I would love to use this elegant program for my comics.

Actually, storing my comic-books in Bookpedia works well and I can't see what use I would have of such app.

My comic-books are stored as format "comicbook". For other things, Bookpedia & I are considering them as books amongst others

Nootilus: are you able to pull down the data after scanning with an iSight or are you entering your comic books manually? I've tried Bookpedia and Delicious both, and neither seem to hook into whatever database it is that keeps comic book barcode info. Any ideas? Thanks.

Righto. For books (contrary to DVDs) I enter all and everything by hand. Therefore I store the datas as I want to.
I don't trust datas retriveved from internet, because I've had too much useless "noise", e.g. datas in bad fields, etc... now I've taken the habit to enter datas myself and actually I don't find this slow or boring to do

Too many comics. Too many other things to do with my time.

A few existing programs allow the user to download comic data from the various comic book online resources ("Comics" for the Mac and "Realms of Wonder" for the PC are both good examples) ... but neither are as elegant as the 'pedia software. (In the case of "Comics" there is an alarmingly odd over-sight of not being able to search your collection by writer or artist. It just makes no sense.)

If someone has a plug-in, I'd be happy to pay for it.

This would be AWESOME! I have been looking for more than a few years and can't find one. All the software for this really isn't great. Your software does a wonderful job and would be easy to add to book-pedia as a separate section. When I say "easy" I mean someone really really smart to do it. You even would have enough buyers to have it's own pediea. Comics are one of the biggest industry's going right now, with the movies taking so much from them.

But if you have a great program (nudge, nudge, Bruji!) then you can edit the data fields to fit. What if the program made could take the data imputed from people and filter it to make it's own database as well? At lease for cover images and basic data, not all the other fields.

Having a more flexible program that can do more for those collecting other items is where we are trying to go. Adding a search plug-in for comics into Bookpedia is something we have experimented with but, like board games in Gamepedia, it's very similar but not enough that we can fit all the data into the existing fields. We would have to use some of the custom fields and we hesitate to do that, since each users uses the custom fields so differently.

I am also a huge fan of comics. Of all the comics software out there, the best one I've found is ComicBookLover:

It allows you to read any comics you might have in electronic (.cbz, .cbr) formats, and the window looks a lot like the pedias.

However, it's nowhere near as nice as the pedias, nor does it have their functionality. If you have your comics mostly in electronic format it's a great app. If they are all printed, then I use Bookpedia for that. I have most of them on there and the find window does a pretty good job of finding them on Amazon, etc, however a lot of them I've had to add manually, but it works quite well. Of course, a dedicated pedia might be better

Conor, how about a simple one to start. With title, Cover Art, writer, and so forth. Just the basics using already set fields. You can put a lot in the summery section. As long as you can get acesses to great database, like Grand Comic Book Database and comicbookdb.com, also I know I talked with http://www.comiccollectorlive.com/ and they had posted as long as someone was willing to make the program to work with Mac they would love to have one. Why not ask them and use their database. I also would gladly Beta test something, and see what would be good fields to use.

Just checking in. I know it is harder than "Hey can I use your database" But hopefully they will understand the traffic you can send them....
